Guild Complex

The knitting guild that I joined almost 2 years ago has its monthly meeting tomorrow afternoon. I'm seriously considering just calling it quits with that guild. At last month's meeting there was an ugly scene between 2 members over something completely trivial and stupid, and I think that was the last straw for me. Joining a guild was supposed to be fun and a way to meet people who share my passion for knitting, but it's turning into a source of stress. There's a big power struggle going on, and the 2 parties are each trying to get me on their side. Furthermore, most of the members aren't serious about their knitting. They just want to sit there and eat and gossip. When the board tries to set up education programs and such, they're met with raw indifference. It's just so lame and uninspiring. Part of me thinks, "Oh, I should stay and try to help the club president change things." But another part of me says, "You know that those old biddies aren't ever going to change their ways, so why tilt at windmills?" Furthermore, there are plenty of other knitting guilds and stitch-n-bitch clubs here in Chicago. It's not as if I can't do better. Yeah, I think I'm going elsewhere tomorrow. Life is too short to waste on a mediocre knitting guild.

I can only say we joined a net group of knitters that sounded the same ..it took a while until we left but we did.

Good for you. Sometimes you have to face up to the fact that it's just not right.

Nope, I did not go. And I probably won't go next month, either. I'll go back in December for the yarn exchange (since I have someone else's yarn and need to give it back), but that's going to be it. I'm outta there!
