The Beauty of Blocking

Here are before-and-after photos of a Vortex shawl I just finished. This is what it looked like before blocking:



And this is what it looks like after blocking (well, during blocking; it's still stretched out on my bed drying as I type this):



See how blocking really opens up the pattern so you can see the stitch definition? It's amazing how it changes the character of a piece of knitted fabric.

For those of you who care about such things, the yarn is Alpaca Cloud from Knit Picks. Unfortunately, this color, Autumn Heather, has been discontinued. As is so often the case, I wish I had bought more when I had the chance because it's so beautiful. At the time, though, I couldn't justify spending the money, especially since I still have so much unused yarn on hand. Speaking of which, I think I'm *finally* going to get around to using some cashmere laceweight yarn I bought 3 (or 4?) years ago. Stay tuned....
