During that same shopping trip to get yarn for my nephew's hat, his mom also requested a hat and picked out yarn she liked. She said she wanted a "big hat." I said, "You mean like a beret?" She said, "I guess so....." So that's what I made. I hope she likes it.This is the hat laid flat on its side.
And this is a view of the top. You can see the spiral decreases, which is my favorite way to finish off a hat.
I used two strands of yarn held together and size 13 needles, so it is very chunky and warm. The yarn is Lion Brand Wool-Ease Chunky in the color Willow, and Patons Classic Wool Worsted in Forest (which is the same variegated yarn I used for my nephew's hat). It's amazing how different it looks when it's paired with a solid yarn.
I had told my SIL that she wouldn't get this hat before Christmas, but I finished it sooner than I thought I would. So if I brave the lines at the post office and get it in the mail today, there's a good chance she'll get it on Monday.
Well, I think (hope) that's it for my Christmas gift knitting this year. Hope you finished all your projects on time and have some time to make something for yourself once the holiday frenzy is over. Happy holidays!
