Temperature Scarf and Pussy Hat

I'm sure many of you have heard of the concept of a temperature blanket. If not, you can find hundreds of examples by doing a search on Pinterest or Instagram. The idea is that you assign a color to a range of temperatures. At the end of every day, you knit or crochet one row in the color of yarn that matches the high temperature for that day. By the end of the year, you have a record of the weather in your area. At the suggestion of a friend, I decided to make a scarf, rather than a blanket, because it's a little more manageable, and frankly, I don't have room to store a huge blanket while I'm working on it. This is what I have for the first 13 days of January 2017.

As you can see, I've chosen cool colors for cool temperatures, and I have warmer colors (yellow, orange, and red) on hand for when it gets warmer. I think it will be interesting to see the progression of colors as the year goes along.

In other news, there is a big women's march in Washington, DC, on January 21. Unfortunately, I can't travel to DC right now for financial and other reasons, but I do plan to attend the sister march in Chicago, along with several friends. Many of us are knitting pink hats with cat ears (also known as pussy hats) as a form of protest. For more info, check out the website for the Pussyhat Project. This is the hat I'm going to wear.

I stopped at my local yarn store Yarnify last night and got some more pink yarn so I can make a couple extra hats to give to friends or to anyone at the march who wants one. This will be my first protest march, so I'm really excited about it.
