Seven-Color Fibonacci Scarf (and Bonus Hat)

Well, this is my last post of 2021. It has been a rough year on many fronts, but as always, knitting and crocheting keep me sane. They give me something to do besides doomscroll on my phone and fret about the state of the world. As long as I can afford to buy yarn, I can keep making beautiful things for myself and the people I love, and that gives me a little bit of hope, no matter how dire things get. Anyway, on with the show.... I bought this yarn from Knit Picks as a discount set. It is Gloss DK, a wool and silk blend. I really liked the contrast of warm and cool colors and thought they would work well together in a striped pattern without looking too rainbow-ish. I decided to make a scarf. This design was inspired by a photo of a striped rug I saw in a magazine ad. I liked the idea of one color gradually growing larger while the other diminishes and then repeating the sequence with a different contrasting color. Parallelogram Scarf

I finished the parallelogram scarf using those 2 pink and yellow gradients. It hasn't been blocked yet, but it still looks great. I might end up keeping it for myself. I haven't decided yet. I started a triangle shawl with these 2 gradients. It's coming along but I need to make haste because it's a Christmas present. Once I'm done with that, I don't know what I'll do. I guess I'll take a dive into the stash and see what I can find. There's still an unfinished sweater that I'm feeling guilty about....

My Philosophy: Make Something Beautiful, and then Give It Away

Back in the summer, I was obsessed with knitting the dishcloth pattern published in the first Mason-Dixon knitting book. As I was knitting a cloth, it occurred to me that the stitch pattern would make a beautiful blanket. Lo and behold, Afghans for Afghans sent out a call for baby blankets for a hospital in Kabul. So I decided to make one using the dishcloth pattern, and here is the result. In this view, you can see the stitch pattern better. The brown yarn that frames the whole thing is Lion Brand fisherman's wool in natural brown. The other 7 colors are a bunch of wool oddballs I had left over from other projects. I love it and and thinking of making one for myself, on a larger scale of course, and with a more sophisticated palette.
