A Cowl, a Loom, and a Stash

A couple of weeks ago a friend and I went to Miss Purl, a little yarn store on 95th street. My friend needed yarn to make a dress for her grand-niece, and I was there for moral support...and to browse the shelves. The owner of the store, Kamaca, is lovely and helped my friend find a pattern and even printed it out for her and then helped her pick out an appropriate yarn. It's so refreshing to go to a store with impeccable service like that. Of course, I ended up buying yarn I don't need, 2 skeins of Rowan felted tweed.

Green is my favorite color, and I couldn't resist these. I decided to make a cowl holding both yarns together. I used size 8 needles and seed stitch.

I'm very happy with how it turned out and am excited to wear it when the weather gets cooler.

I am finally done organizing my yarn stash. I have it all shelved in the bedroom closet. It's so nice to have it all in one place and somewhat sorted by weight. I have a LOT of random skeins of hand-dyed sock yarn.

In the course of my sorting, I found a little loom I never use. I got it when I took an introduction to weaving class at the Hyde Park Art Center many years ago.

One of my friends has kids who enjoy doing crafts, so I asked her if they might be interested in it. She said yes, and they came over here a few days ago for a quick weaving tutorial. Yesterday she sent me a photo of her 2 younger kids working on a project together. I'm so glad I found someone who will enjoy the loom. I hate to throw stuff like that in the trash.

So now that my yarn is better organized and I can see everything that I have, I have had a lot of ideas for new projects. I pulled 2 of those skeins of sock yarn out of the stash and wound them today to make a shawl for a friend, whose birthday is next month.

I think it's going to be really beautiful and I hope that she likes it.
