As noted in my last post, I made a shawl for a friend who got a breast cancer diagnosis. Her surgery at the end of September was successful, and she is expected to make a full recovery. She had the best possible prognosis in terms of cancer stage, and she will not have to undergo chemotherapy. I did manage to get the shawl to her before her surgery. I know it's not much, but since I live too far away to be there and help in person, it's the best I can offer.
She loves it and sent me a photo of herself wearing it while enjoying a cup of tea on her deck.
I went to Buffalo to visit family at the end of September. My 9-year-old niece saw me knitting with some Knit Picks Chroma fingering weight yarn and said that for Christmas she would like to have a blanket in similar colors. That yarn had been in my stash for a long time, so of course they didn't carry that exact color anymore, so I showed her the website and she picked a different one. I started it October 9, and as of today, it's roughly crib size (3 by 2.5 feet).
I am using a log cabin pattern from the Modern-Daily Knitting ladies' first book (back when they were still Mason-Dixon Knitting). I wasn't sure about this color at first. It seemed a little garish, but I think the stripes are starting to look very interesting. I have to give my niece credit for having a good eye for color. I am hoping that I have enough yarn to make it big enough for a twin bed blanket. As I told a friend, I will knit until I run out of yarn, time, or the will to live.
Thank goodness the weather has finally cooled off. I would be miserable if I were knitting this big, unwieldy thing in hot weather. In any case, I think this blanket will be my only knitted project for Christmas this year. Everyone else will get money or something I buy for them. I will be sure to post a photo when it's done, before I ship it to Buffalo.
